Product Design Engineer

Location: Colchester, UK (onsite) 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Product Design Engineer to support the development of innovative products from concept through production. Based in Colchester, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring new ideas to life, contribute to design decisions, and help ensure our products meet user needs, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of new products and components.
  • Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using AutoCAD Inventor
  • Support prototyping, testing, and validation of designs.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to inform design improvements.
  • Participate in design reviews and team brainstorming sessions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, sales, and quality teams to ensure product feasibility and performance.
  • Document design processes and maintain design files according to company standards.
  • Identify new systems and processes to drive quality, efficiency and save costs
  • Plan effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard and to budget.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical illustration and sketching experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Good Understanding of the plastic injection moulding process as well as fundamental knowledge of machining and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Innovation skills with the ability to think creatively
  • E-literate and competent in developing, administering and using PC systems to acquire, manipulate and disseminate information.
  • Experienced problem solver and trouble shooter.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to multitask, prioritise, and manage time efficiently.
  • Goal-oriented, organised team player.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Understanding of Loss Prevention in the Retail industry would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of product materials and capabilities, as well as BS8888 standard.
  • Authorisation to work indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
